Get Caught Reading
A national campaign to promote the joy of reading, the Get Caught Reading website includes photos of the many celebrities who have been "caught reading."

Internet Public Library: Reading Zone
The Reading Zone is described as "a little like the fiction section of a public library." It provides links to on-line stories and information about children's books and their authors.

International Reading Association
The professional organization of literacy professionals, the IRA's website includes the latest reading research, information for parents and teachers about reading at any age, booklists, and countless links to online resources.

Jim Trelease
Author of The Read-Aloud Handbook, Jim Trelease discusses important issues in reading research, provides book reviews, and advice on the importance of reading to children.

Kay Vandergrift
Kay Vandergrift provides a critical look into children's litearture as well as a page on "Linking Literature with Learning."

National Reading Panel
In April 2000, the NRP released findings on its two year research project on reading instruction. The website includes summaries of their findings and links to the full report.

National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)

Phonemic Awareness - Strategies
For example, your child might say:
-I don't know any words that rhyme with cat.
-What do you mean when you say, "What sounds are in the word brush?"
-I'm not sure how many syllables are in my name.
