Community Interaction

Students at Conn interact with the community in many ways. Community experts
visit Focus Area and module classes to give a real-world perspective on learning. Classes take excursions, or mini field trips, into the community to help make connections between the students' academic experiences and their real-world applications. Focus Area classes perform and produce artwork for the community. (To learn more about focus areas, use the link to the left of your screen.)
Community Experts
Volunteers from the community, or expert speakers
, are invited to Conn on a daily basis to share their expertise in a particular field of study. Doctors, meteorologists, university professors, and television anchors are just a few of the experts
sharing their knowledge with Conn students. By opening our doors to the community, our students glean valuable information about others' roles and how learning can positively affect their future.

Excursions
Conn students participate in a variety of excursions to local businesses, museums, and organizations to reinforce project-based learning activities going on in the classroom. For example, 5th graders use GPS units to geocache at NC State's wildlife park to develop a clearer understanding of real world applications for latitude & longitude and mapping skills.
